Davit Gareji - Udabno - Border Georgia /Azerbaijan - Balaken - Mazix
Yesterday we were considering, that the road to Sagaredscho might be better than the one we took from Rustawi. No big difference.
The barrenness of the nature has its own beauty
The edge of the mountains with a fortified tower on top is the border to Azerbaijan
Village Udabno in the middle of nowhere
The border of Georgia
Before the Border crossing to Azerbaijan, Georgia wishes "Good Luck". This makes us worried, a bit.

Passport and custom control
10 days ago we applied online for a Visa to Azerbaijan, after 3 days we received an email with the approved Visa and were able to print it out at Maia's Camping in Georgia.
The border crossing from Georgia to Azerbaijan takes us exactly one hour. The Azerbaijani officers are very interested and friendly, ask several times the same, if we have been in Armenia, how long we intend to stay and how many liters of alcohol we have in the car. They check the car randomly ask for Tara's passport, then we have to pay 20usd as a street fee and finally we can pass.
Welcome in Azerbaijan
The first impression we get, the streets are new asphalted and the first city after the border, Balaken, very clean. The first action we do is to buy a Sim card with 5GB internet access. No problem at all.
In my travel guide is a description of a 40m high waterfall of the river Katexcay near the village Mazix.
Google maps leads us over this side road in the village, a "little" rough....
.... the main road of the village is good again, decorated with happy free cows
Azerbaijani have high trust in their cars
We follow all instructions, but don't find the waterfall. Tomorrow morning we will try to ask about it, but people here can hardly speak English.
We find a place to stay in Grata Camping, which is completly empty after the last daytime guests leave. A good barbecue dinner from their restaurant and after a walk a hot tea from the Samowar is a nice start to our visit to Azerbaijan. The owner and the staff are very friendly and they don't charge anything as a camping fee.
