2193 km: Greece, Voidomatis River

03.August 2019

Zagori villages - Aristi - Pools of Rogovo - Voidomatis River

BLUE line is the planned route
RED line is the actual route we drove

The crossing of the border in Kakavija from Albania to Greece is very fast. It seems, that the Austrian car plate and passports open borders. All other cars infront of us are inspected very carefully.

Memorial for someone or a little prayers corner on the road?

Not far from the border the Zagori villages and the surrounding nature are one of the highlights in Greece.

Aristi

After Aristi we cross the very narrow old bridge over the Voidomatis River. Right afterwards is a beautiful spot with cristal clear water, about 5° C, well known for rafting.

 Hosain and Tara, very brave

After a refreshing dip in the 5° cold water - I only dip my feet - we drive a very challenging serpentine street up to the mountain towards the village Mikro Papingo to swim in the natural "Pools of Rogovo"

The serpentine street doesn't look so difficult from far away, but without fall protection on the edges it is not easy for the nerves... specially driving back downwards

Since it is summer time, the pools are not very full of fresh water and compared to the tight place too many people.

We have a short walk into the tight canyon and drive back, have a very good lunch in one of the restaurants nearby,  but triple the prices we had in Albania.

At Voidomatis River we find a very nice place to camp over night.

It is really very cold

Conny & Chris a Swiss/German couple park their camper near us and we spend a nice evening together chatting about our adventures.
