6915 km: Azerbaijan, Girdimanchay Canyon

23 August 2019

Saki - Lahic - Girdimanchay Canyon

BLUE line is the planned route
RED line is the actual route we drove

Today we plan to reach Baku with a stop in Lahic. This village is situated in the high mountains of the Girdimanchay Canyon, the heart piece of the first Albanian Kingdom, 2000 years ago. Lahic  was founded by the Persian Shah Kaikhosro home to persian copper smiths. Till today the villagers speak a kind of persian dialect.

Some impressions from road to Lahic, cemetery...

...avenue...

 ...Girdimanchay River...

....a holy place on the top with a fresh water tap down the hill...

The street through the canyon is on some parts narrow, but ok to drive

The pictures of the late President Haydar Aliyev are everywhere present.

Lahic is a pretty renovated village, specially the main street and attracts many tourists.

We find a nice xanecay= teahouse where we get 3 different kinds of tea served. Very good, so we buy the mixture with flowers and herbs.

Tara is The attraction. Some are afraid of her and some want to touch her and take photos with her. Poor Tara is really stressed and happy to find peace in her BlueBird.
On the way back we find the perfect place in the riverbed of Girdimanchay River to stay over night and get Tara a quiet place to relax and run free, before we drive to Baku tomorrow.
