5856 km: Georgia, Atskuri

16 August 2019

Tortum Waterfall - Türkgözü - Georgia/Atskuri

BLUE line is the planned route
RED line is the actual route we drove

In the morning a farmer passes by to give us two sweet melons from his garden.

The waterfalls of Tortum are with 48m the highest waterfalls in Turkey. Very impressive even in August with less water coming down then in springtime

The waste collection management doesn't really work

.

Our next destination is Türkgözü to pass the border to Georgia. Amazing landscape on the way and nearly no cars. The street getting nearer to the border is not in a very good condition.

The build a new street with tunnels

Abondend village with the old road cut off due the construction of a new high dam.

The border crossing to Georgia is not as smooth as all the border crossings we had till now.  I had to go out of the car and go through a separate gate than Hosain as driver has to drive through amother pas sport control.  The woman officer is really nasty to me and she asks a lot of questions. Finally after one hour we can pass to have the car checked, but we have to buy a insurance (10eur),  because our green insurance card doesn't cover Georgia.
At the customs they ask what medicine we have. The officer controls piece by piece our medicine. I am sure he has no idea anyhow.
They also ask about Tara's passport and check her vacinations.  Everything ok and we can enter Georgia.

We find a simple Camping in Atskuri, not THE perfect place, but so nice hosts.
Maia the host of the camping "Nick and George" is very friendly and pampers us with a good dinner and housemade Wodka. Her husband is the technical part of this couple and prints out our visas for Azerbaijan.

  2. Dear Tiana and Hosain.

the trip through Turkey seems to be very interesting, the Zeus Temple and all the Roman ruins. We always love to follow your trip on Orux and enjoy the fotos. Do you have always delicious breakfast as seen in the last photo?
Last weekend we have been in Bad Schandau with our son Thomas and family. We spent 3 days with them on a campsite in Elbsandsteingebirge near Dresden and celebrated Dianas birthday. Then Günter amd me went again to Czech Republic to relax some days. Now we stay with our WoMo at a wonderful lake surrounded by hills and forest. The lake is warm for swimming and so romantic with all the sailing boats but the campsite is very crowded.

Good to hear that you are well. We are now near the border to Azerbaijan and might not have internet the next days. I will try to buy a internet Sim card. We are happy that you like the blog. Each country we have visited so far is unique and beautiful.
Thank you for following up with us and your encouraging comments.
    Big hug
