Van Lake - Nemrut Dagci
BLUE line is the planned route
RED line is the actual route we drove
Today is a special day. Hosain's birthday, so he gets a special rainbow ...
...a special campers breakfast...
....a special destination, Nemrut Dagci with special nature on the way
We arrive at 5.30pm after a long distance through the mountains. We are happy to catch one of the transfer busses, with a special place for Tara, to drive up to Nemrut Dagci before sunset. It's not allowed to walk or drive by yourself up there.
Crowning one of the highest peaks of the Eastern Taurus mountain range in south-east Turkey, Nemrut Dağ is the Hierotheseion (temple-tomb and house of the gods) built by the late Hellenistic King Antiochos I of Commagene (69-34 B.C.) as a monument to himself.
The mausoleum of Antiochus I (69–34 B.C.), who reigned over Commagene, a kingdom founded north of Syria and the Euphrates after the breakup of Alexander's empire, is one of the most ambitious constructions of the Hellenistic period. The syncretism of its pantheon, and the lineage of its kings, which can be traced back through two sets of legends, Greek and Persian, is evidence of the dual origin of this kingdom's culture.
Lots of people like us who want to enjoy this special place ato sunset ...
....of course Tara is the special event for some
It is already dark when we descent to the parking and the care takers of the archilogical site offer us to camp over night at the parking, for a bottle of wine.
In the evening we have a simple dinner at the restaurant with sparkling wine from Austria (from the duty free shop) in beer glasses. Life is wonderful.
The care takers of the place join us for a picture
The view from our place in the morning is awesome in the distance....
... but the view below, garbage in such a mystic place ... so sad!
We plan to go towards the coast and spend some relaxing days at the sea
