Nowshahr - Marzanabad - Tehran
After 5 relaxing days in Nowshahr with nice beach walks we need to go ahead to our next destination, Tehran. I feel uncomfortable to take Tara to Tehran after we heard that domestic dogs are not allowed there. Our nephew Hanif insures us that the apartment building he leaves in has a big garden, where we can take Tara out for a walk as the other dog owners from this building do and that there are public parks where people walk their dogs without being molested. Let's see!

Tradition...
... Modernity
The shortest route connecting Nowshahr with Tehran is through the Alborz mountains with a narrow, overcrowded road and steep serpentines with no chance to overtake the car in the front. Since more than 30 years the highway, with approx 50% that has to be drilled through the mountains, is under construction with only some kms on the two ends finished.
Nevertheless it's absolutely worth to drive the "old" road with the beautiful landscape!
Dense fog on one side of the mountain with 17°C ...
...after the tunnel, sunshine on the other side with 25°C

Today the Islamic New Year "Muharram" starts, a month where Shia Muslims remember the death of Hussain ibn Ali, a grandson of prophet Mohamed, who was killed in the battle of Karbala. In this month many of the Iranian flags, which usually decorate the bridges are exchanged with black flags.
After 324km within 7 hours we reach Hanif's place in Tehran, where we will stay with the family 5 days before we continue to drive back to Austria through the west/northwest of Iran.
