8450 km: Iran, Tehran Province

From 02 September till 06 September 2019

Hanif's Place - Iran Mall - Behesht Zahra Cemetery - Hassan's Place

I was worried how it's going to be with Tara in Tehran. As our nephew Hanif promised we have no problem to walk Tara in the nearby parks and the garden of his apartment building. The reaction of the people is the same as in Georgia and Azerbaijan, either frightened of Tara or interested and curious to touch her. The garden of the apartment building is full of street cats to keep us busy.

Hanif's Place is a great place for us to chill out with a lovely host and family

Of course Tara has not the same freedom as she is used too, but for the 5 days we stay in Tehran it's ok. Hanif and his friends arrange a meeting point with their dogs (all small Terrier ) in a large park. All other dogs we meet are as well Terrier. I learn, that this breed is cheaper and easier to hide and carry while walking on the streets. Some weeks ago street dogs and domestic dogs were poisend, but the people held demonstrations against this cruel killing, so the major of Tehran gave in

In the month of Muharram people from different backgrounds gather in the evening at the so called "Tekiyeh", where they get free meals " Nazrie" and juices. It's a meeting point specially for young people who hang out there and celebrate this old tradition in a modern way.

The next day we have the chance to watch a small traditional Muharram ceremony at the Behesht Zahra Cemetery. For us in the west it looks rather threatening to see men dressed in black hitting themselves, but in reality it is more a show and interesting to watch
